Sindelfingen old town

Let yourself be enchanted by the lovingly restored half-timbered houses and winding alleyways! With a renowned stock of half-timbered buildings from the Middle Ages (the oldest half-timbered house dates back to 1363), the town’s history can still be experienced up close today. By the way: Sindelfingen and its historic old town have been part of the German Half-Timbered House Road since 2013. The German Half-Timbered Road is a 3,500-kilometre road through Germany and stretches from the Elbe in the north to Lake Constance in the south. It connects different landscapes and nature parks with historic towns and their monuments, cultural baths and festival venues.

Martinskirche

Discover one of the most important architectural monuments in Baden-Württemberg – the Romanesque Martinskirche in Sindelfingen! This impressive basilica was completed in 1133. Its Lombard choir and tower in particular offer a rare medieval sight today. The church was once the center of a secular canonry, whose personalities and finances formed the basis for the founding of the University of Tübingen in 1477. St. Martin’s Church therefore not only reflects Württemberg history in terms of art history, but also cultural history.

Galerie Stadt Sindelfingen

The Galerie Stadt Sindelfingen was founded in 1990 as a venue for contemporary art. It is located in the city center at the head of the market square. With the Lütze Collection, the gallery preserves important works by modern and contemporary artists. Event formats, such as artist talks, guided tours, lectures and workshops, enable in-depth exploration of artistic expression, making the Galerie Stadt Sindelfingen a lively place of exchange with and about art.

SCHAUWERK Sindelfingen

The SCHAUWERK Sindelfingen has been presenting the collection of Peter Schaufler († 2015) and Christiane Schaufler-Münch, comprising more than 3,500 works, since 2010 and has been one of the leading addresses for contemporary art in southern Germany ever since. Let yourself be fascinated by high-ranking positions in German and international art from the 1950s to the present day. The SCHAUWERK offers a wide-ranging art education program for visitors of all ages. Take a look at the homepage and book a guided tour, a creative workshop or a team event in the studios.

Stadtmuseum

The Stadtmuseum is located in the heart of the historic old town in the Old Town Hall and the adjoining Salt House, which were built in 1470 and 1592 respectively. Experience the highlights of the town’s history from its foundation to the present day in the exhibition. The wood-paneled farmhouse parlor from the 19th century and the detailed model of the town showing Sindelfingen around the year 1830 deserve special attention. Archaeological finds and references to the formerly rural small town complete the tour and bring the past to life.

Webereimuseum

In the Webereimuseum in the former Sindelfingen weaving school, you will gain a deep insight into the great importance that Sindelfingen had as a weaving town in Württemberg, especially in the 19th century. The museum shows the development from hand weaving to machine production and its impact on the town. One highlight is the Jacquard loom, whose punch card mechanism was an important milestone in the development of computer technology. Hand weaving has been on the national list of intangible cultural heritage since 2023.

Art in public space

Art in public spaces is an integral and essential part of Sindelfingen’s urban culture. Be inspired by the more than 100 sculptures and installations, some of which were created by world-renowned artists such as Mary Vieira, Ulrich Rückriem, Lawrence Weiner or Horst Antes. The works of art can be found throughout the city and its districts. The majority of the artworks in the center are part of the exhibition “German Sculptors of the 20th Century” from 1982.
