Sindelfingen offers a wide range of opportunities to experience nature and be active at the same time.

Explore the Sindelfingen Stadtwald on hiking trails or dive into the newly constructed Waldbadepfad. Adventurers can look forward to the two forest rallies and an exciting geo-caching tour. The Aibachgrund Darmsheim attracts visitors with its Japanese cherry blossom, while the numerous parks and the Sommerhofenpark with its refreshing Kneippbecken invite you to relax. For cycling enthusiasts, the “Radel-Rund” cycle tour is an ideal way to explore the surrounding area. Those looking for adrenaline can put their skills to the test in the skater park and on the pump track.

Sommerhofenpark

Since the Garden Show in 1990, the Sommerhofenpark has been the green calling card of the city of Sindelfingen. It offers a varied mix of flowers and plants as well as a rose garden and a variety of playgrounds. At the northern end of the park there is a traffic training area for children with a small playground. In the southern third there is a large playground equipped with water pumps, a muddy sandpit and interesting play equipment. At the steam train station, the Dampfbahnfreunde Sindelfingen offer the opportunity to take a ride on the steam train almost every Sunday and public holiday from April to September. In the middle of the park, the Wiesengarten Biergarten invites you to linger. The large, centrally located lawn is ideal for sunbathing. It is also the ideal place to play volleyball and badminton. A boules court has been set up for boules fans.

Steam train in Sommerhofenpark

From the beginning of April to the end of September, you can ride along a route of around one kilometer through Sindelfingen’s Sommerhofenpark on almost every Sunday and public holiday. The train operates on these days from 10 am to 6 pm – except on special days. Rides may be postponed or canceled in bad weather.

Kneippbecken in Sommerhofenpark

In the Kneippbecken at the northern end of the Sommerhofenpark, you can do yourself some good with fresh spring water from March to October. The Kneippbecken has a treading and arm bathing pool where you can refresh yourself not only on hot summer days, but also after a strenuous sports session. Treading water alleviates circulatory problems, stimulates the circulation and can help you fall asleep in the evening.

Klostersee

Just a few minutes’ walk from the bustling city center, the 2.5-hectare Klostersee offers a welcome change for locals and visitors alike. High-quality natural stone paths open up the area around the Klostersee and invite you to take relaxing walks. To the north of the Klostersee is the extensive grounds of the Sommerhofenpark, with its green spaces and recreational opportunities.

Hiking trails in the Sindelfingen Stadtwald

The 1,800-hectare Stadtwald is an ideal place to relax on the outskirts of the city thanks to its paths with a total length of 123 kilometers. The majestic redwood trees from the 19th century are a real eye-catcher here! There are benches for a short break in many places, which the forestry company makes itself. The starting point for all routes is at the end of Arthur-Gruber-Straße near the Wasserturm. There are also plenty of parking spaces there. The Alte Vaihinger Straße and the asphalt paths that branch off from it are very popular with inline skaters. The hiking trails in the Sindelfingen Stadtwald are maintained by the Schwarzwaldverein Sindelfingen e.V.. Niederseilgarten in the Sindelfingen Stadtwald

The Niederseilgarten in Sindelfingen Stadtwald was opened in October 2023. The course consists of twelve different elements for climbing and balancing. Located right at the entrance to the Stadtwald, it invites you to consciously experience and discover the Sindelfingen forest. In contrast to high ropes courses, the course elements are located 60 cm from the ground. In addition, the soft ground made of wood chips cushions the jump from the balancing beams. In order to protect the forest and the individual trees, care was taken to use only suitable and sufficiently strong trees for the course elements. The elements were also installed as carefully as possible.

Waldbadepfad in the Sindelfingen Stadtwald

The Waldbadepfad is located behind the water tower in Sindelfingen’s Stadtwald and was created by the Schwarzwaldverein Sindelfingen and the Bürgerstiftung Sindelfingen. On the almost 1 kilometer long circular tour, you can immerse yourself in the forest with all your senses and carry out small exercises at five different stations. Forest bathing is about consciously spending time in the forest. According to researchers, a walk through the forest regulates blood pressure, pulse and blood sugar levels and strengthens the immune system in the long term. Stress hormones are reduced and the heartbeat becomes calmer.

Forest rally in the Sindelfingen Stadtwald

Children can experience a real adventure on an exciting forest rally. The tour starts at the forest parking lot at the water tower and leads to the forest center at the Forsthof. The trail is 2.5 km long and takes about 1-2 hours. The questions are designed to be family and child-friendly. If you want a shorter route, you can start the “Waldrallye-Viehweide” at Hans-Thoma-Platz in the center of Sindelfingen’s Viehweide district. The approximately 1.5 km long hike leads through the adjacent forest and ends back at the starting point. It takes about an hour to solve the puzzles and enjoy the view! The instructions with quiz questions, route map and solutions for the rally can be downloaded or taken in paper form from the bird center and the Viehweide district meeting point.

Cycling tour “Radel-Rund” Sindelfingen/Böblingen

Explore the surroundings of Sindelfingen by bike with the “Radel-Rund”! The approx. 37 km long, well-signposted route takes you mainly on paved cycle paths, forest tracks and country lanes, away from car traffic. The eastern section runs through picturesque forests, while in the west you pass idyllic fields and charming villages such as Dagersheim, Darmsheim and Maichingen. Various viewpoints invite you to take a break and enjoy the unique hilly landscape on the edge of the Heckengäu and Schönbuch. The circular tour can be started and finished at any point. Skate park and pump track

The skate park behind the Glaspalast is a popular meeting place for teenagers and young adults. In 2019, it was expanded with a pump track facility and has since been a highlight for all skaters, scooters, BMXers and inline skaters – but please don’t forget your helmet.

Aibachgrund Darmsheim

Every year, the former quarry in the Darmsheim district of Sindelfingen delights visitors with its magnificent blossoms! Japanese ornamental cherry trees bloom there from the end of March to April. Whether for a short photo shoot, a break with a book, an adventure on the playground or a walk with the family – the park is always worth a visit!
