The history of the town was marked by significant turning points, such as the relocation of the canons’ monastery to Tübingen in 1476/77 to found the university, as well as the Peasants’ War battle on the Goldberg in 1525. The Reformation in 1535 led to the dissolution of the Augustinian monastery. In the 19th century, Sindelfingen developed into a center of hand weaving in Württemberg. The founding of the first manufactory in 1835 and the introduction of mechanical weaving mills around 1880 brought an economic boom. The establishment of the Daimler motor company in 1915 and the first IBM computer center in 1949 contributed to industrial development. The town’s history continued: Sindelfingen was named a large district town in 1962. The 1970s saw the inauguration of the new town hall, the incorporation of the districts of Maichingen and Darmsheim and the first International Street Festival in 1977. This was followed by major infrastructure development in the 1980s. Sindelfingen has continued to develop since 2000, particularly with the creation of the airfield as a new inter-municipal district. In 2013, the city celebrated its 750th anniversary. This multifaceted history still shapes the city today and invites you to explore its diverse development.
